Even your Basements need some look!

The basement is one of the places in the house which is always dark, under inhospitable conditions and most children consider it to be spooky! Fortunately decorating a basement with minimal expenditure is a breeze today. First make sure the rain gutters are clear and the downpour doesn’t cause water to puddle to make it dry. Another important aspect is the heating system since basements are always cool and damp. Replace that gloomy look of the basement with a sparkle by suitable lighting schemes. Make sure that there is enough ceiling clearance to make it a functional living space since you tend to get annoyed if you crouch and walk. If the ceiling is low the only option is to make it a small storage room. Use your creativity and imagination and paint the walls with suitable colors, laminate the flooring, buy small yet fashionable furniture and add small antiques and decorating items in the space available to transform it into an attractive room. The basement can be anything you want – a sophisticated jazz lounge, a mini- theatre, a guest room, an entertainment centre, a professional home office or even a play room for your kids Let your imagination run wild and create a space to enjoy and be proud of!

Cover the dining table using a table cloth which need not be traditional white lace, but just a simple printed designed cloth which can also help cover the stains. Allot a side glass cabinet where you can keep the expensive cutlery and put away all the things on the table inside these drawers. Keep cushions on the chairs which will make the seating more comfortable. Warm up the room and add more colors to it especially red which will not only brighten up the room but also stimulate your appetite. Also mirrors strategically placed in the dining room will help brighten up the room and make it seem more spacious. Granites: A luxury you can’t miss!

Granite is an igneous rock, formed due to the cooling of molten magma consisting chiefly of quartz, mica and feldspar. It is very hardwearing, resistant to chemicals and once laid and polished gives a timeless look. However this is a very luxurious form of flooring since it is quite expensive. Careful choices need to be taken keeping in mind the availability and budget. There is a variety of colors and patterns from which we can choose depending on the requirement and décor of the house. Dark colors will make the room look small and cozy whereas light colors make it look larger and elegant. It is one of the ideal forms of kitchen flooring since it is resilient to staining. Since it resists any chemical falling on it like oil, fat, grease, fizzy drinks etc makes it easy for maintenance and cleaning. One minor disadvantage of granite flooring is that quartz like sand particles will cause minor scratches. Left as such will give a dull look on the floor hence this can be prevented by regular sweeping and mopping. Despite this it is highly preferred since it is highly durable, easy to maintain and clean and overall an ideal stone for interior flooring.
